Media for Rotary Tumblers
Steel shot and stainless steel jewellers mixes for burnishing jewellery in rotary barrel tumblers. Choose a shot mix or pin shape to suit the work, and use it with an appropriate tumbler soap or burnishing compound.
Steel media for barrel burnishing
As the barrel turns, steel media rolls against the jewellery to clean and burnish accessible surfaces. Mixed shapes help reach different contours. Burnishing improves the surface finish but does not replace the abrasive preparation needed to remove scratches and tool marks.
Loading and caring for your media
Follow your tumbler instructions for the combined weight of media, jewellery and liquid. Use a suitable compound for the metal and media, and keep the shot clean between batches. Ordinary steel shot requires care to prevent rust; stainless steel shot also needs regular cleaning. Plastic cutting pyramids are not included here because they are ineffective in rotary tumblers.
